Youth Empowerment Project
Sait Matty Road
Brief description of your organization/association:
The Youth Empowerment Project (YEP), launched in February 2017, is a four year flagship project of the government of the Gambia funded by the European Union . It is implemented by the International Trade Centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment and Ministry of Youth and Sports . The main objective is to tackle the economic root causes of irregular migration.
YEP directly supports the development of the local economy by (i) enhancing employability and self-employment opportunities of youth, focusing on vocational training and the creation of MSMEs, and by (ii) creating and improving employment opportunities in selected sectors through value addition and internationalization.
The YEP takes a market-driven approach and focuses on traditional sectors such as agriculture and tourism while also helping to diversify the Gambian economy by supporting “new” promising sectors including the creative and digital services industries.
